The Search for Home

June is one of the busiest and most exciting months in real estate, and honestly, it makes perfect sense. The longer days, summer energy, and steady flow of new listings make this time of year especially active for buyers and sellers alike. Families are planning moves before the next school year, people are exploring new neighborhoods, and there’s a renewed excitement around finding the right place to call home. As busy as this season can be, it also reminds me why I enjoy real estate so much in the first place. One of my favorite parts of this business is helping people through the home search process. And I don’t just mean opening doors or sending listings. I genuinely enjoy learning what people are looking for—the features they light up over, the little details they notice, the things they absolutely don’t want, and even the things they didn’t realize mattered until they saw them in person. I’m constantly taking both actual notes and mental notes so I can better understand what “home” looks like for each person. There’s something incredibly rewarding about connecting those pieces and eventually helping someone walk into a house that just feels right. Every client, every search, and every home is different, and that’s a big part of what makes this work so enjoyable for me. Thanks again for checking out the June edition of my newsletter. I truly appreciate you spending a few minutes with me each month, and I hope you enjoy this edition.

The River That Helped Shape Chattanooga’s Outdoor Identity

Just over an hour from downtown Chattanooga, the Ocoee River has become one of the biggest drivers of outdoor recreation in the Southeast. Every summer, hundreds of thousands of visitors make the trip to experience its world-famous whitewater, helping fuel the region’s tourism economy and reinforcing Chattanooga’s reputation as an outdoor destination. In fact, the Ocoee now attracts roughly 250,000–300,000 rafters each year and supports more than 20 rafting outfitters along the river corridor.

The river itself is divided into three primary sections. The Lower Ocoee is the calmest and most beginner-friendly, popular for tubing and easier paddling. The Middle Ocoee is the commercial heart of the river, featuring nearly continuous Class III and IV rapids that are exciting enough for thrill seekers but still accessible to first-time rafters. Then there’s the Upper Ocoee—the steepest and most technical stretch—home to the famous Olympic whitewater course and some of the river’s most intense rapids.

The Ocoee’s reputation exploded onto the world stage in 1996 when it hosted the canoe and kayak slalom events for the Atlanta Olympics. Remarkably, it remains the only natural river ever used for Olympic whitewater competition. Engineers narrowed portions of the river and strategically placed boulders to create one of the most demanding Olympic whitewater venues ever built.

But did you know recreation on the Ocoee started almost by accident?

For decades, much of the river’s water had been diverted for hydroelectric power generation. In 1976, repairs to TVA’s wooden flume temporarily sent water back through the original riverbed for the first time in years. Paddlers quickly realized the river was perfect for whitewater recreation, and rafting culture on the Ocoee was born. As interest exploded, outdoor enthusiasts and outfitters worked with TVA to establish scheduled recreational water releases—a partnership that still keeps the river running for rafters today.

Support More. Experience More. Enjoy More.

We’re officially halfway through 2026, and the Chattanooga area has already seen an incredible lineup of concerts, festivals, and local events this year. While the summer months can sometimes bring a lighter calendar as families travel and vacation schedules pick up, there are still plenty of great events happening throughout June that deserve our support.

The best way to keep live entertainment thriving in our area is simple: show up. Every ticket purchased, every festival attended, and every local event supported helps make Chattanooga an even better place to live and enjoy.

Below is my curated list of concerts and events happening this month. Hopefully you’ll find a few worth adding to your calendar!
